Right: Old Chair. Single 5/8" Strap Woven with Diagonal Criss Cross
Left: Refinished Chair. Individual 1-1/2" Straps woven Horizontially and Vertically
Tami-Ami was a very popular and distinctive style throughout the 70's. The look is very distinctive with its criss-cross weave and one continuous strap. Other manufacturers were quick to copy this very distinctive style. Manufacturers began phasing out the 5/8" strap, and we have since disposed of the specialized machinery and tools for the one piece weave used for this style of furniture.
Our conversion process involves re-weaving the chair with wider, individual horizontal and vertical straps. The wider strap gives the chair a modern look, as well as a more sturdy and secure feel.
We have performed this conversion on hundreds of chairs, and customers are very pleased with the results.
